El énfasis en la historia del arte es un pilar fundamental en Viejo Verde; la directa alusión a lo clásico, lo lírico, a todo aquello que una vez fue nuevo, moderno, renovador y que por ley temporal se convierte en lo antiguo, lo pasado, lo instituido y en el eterno referente. El artista rejuvenece, vigoriza y destaca el valor intrínseco en la historia del arte a través de la exaltación de la evidente sensualidad de algunas obras y de la manipulación erótica de otras.

La dirección común de un hallazgo nos aúna o dispersa. Mas que una cierta pretensión desde el arte, Trust supone el engendro de un consenso al “hacer”; un discursar, casi a coro de repetición y retornos. Una empresa se forja sobre la voluntad colectiva de concentrar – resumir intimidades disueltas y el monopolio lo ejerce la necesariedad de la crítica en el rendimiento grupal.

Fourth Pragmatic and their Professor René Francisco exhibited the last February with the main objective of unifying a group of students. They establish as a necessity the search of objects and specific contexts, where their own connections settle down. In this case they intervenes a space loaded with the beauty and the power of the past.

It has always been said that things are achieved after the third attempt, but I think I have been nominated about four or five times. I was about to lose count. Some of the persons and institutions that proposed me knew that I did not want this to happen to me, I said to myself: it can’t be that death arrives so soon. These days, so many people, friends or not, have showed me such intense fondness and have congratulated me with such enthusiasm that I am about to think I deserved it.

René Francisco intervenes again with his 4th Pragmatics. This time on a street full of potholes, one of the many that can easily be found in Havana. Their goal, creating a piece of art and reflection out of each hole. For days they studied the field as a class exercise and eventually the work was done on December the 10th. The exercise counts as another instance of art and reality, a gift for the people who live on 74 and 11na, Playa, and incidental passers by.

Classpool was a teaching-creative experience by fourteen ISA Plastic Arts second year students and their professor Rene Francisco. It was a lesson carried out on an alternative space, because according Luis Alberto García, “apparently René hates walled classrooms”. The place – a private swimming pool in Nuevo Vedado, surrounded by trees and a superb view, with bird songs and streaming water as the only soundtrack–, was the 4th Pragmatics’ source of inspiration. There they unfolded their ingenuity between September and October of 2010.

PINTURAS DEL AYER Y DEL MAÑANA título que reúne una serie de obras de René Francisco Rodríguez, realizadas en diferentes etapas por el artista. Expone así su parecer acerca de la producción pictórica, una especie de teoría particular que defiende el concepto de la pintura como oficio o medio de expresión que ha existido y existirá dentro de las variadas prácticas artísticas.

La muestra Antecomienzo reúne a claros exponentes de la generación que tuvo a su cargo «reinventar» el arte cubano en la pasada década (Abel Barroso, Aimée García, Luis Gómez, Ibrahim Miranda, Carlos Montes de Oca, Sandra Ramos, Fernando Rodríguez, René Francisco Rodríguez, Lázaro Saavedra y Osvaldo Yero). Poco podemos decir que no haya sido ya dicho acerca de ellos; sí podemos, no obstante, enunciar nuevos puntos de contacto, delinear territorios de encuentro entre sus propuestas, tan diversas como fecundas.

Solo show

Se entiende que René Francisco interpreta de muchas maneras, como si su accionar le permitiese cubrir de un golpe varias acepciones de verbo tan expansivo. Por una parte, no hay dudas de que él concibe y expresa la realidad “de un modo personal” (de ello dan fe centenares de obras pintadas, dibujadas, instaladas, ensambladas, grabadas en matrices gráficas y en cintas de vídeo).
